in motion | the exhibition
Of all the films in the In Motion series, this is the one that comes closest to time travel. Shot after the exhibition had opened, after the buzz of opening night, it is as much a portrait of the school itself as a record of each student and their work. This was a film about how it felt to be in this particular place, with this particular group of people, at this particular time. Where once the classrooms, walkways and corridors had been lightless and bleak, now there was spring sunshine and breezes finding their way through open doors. After the frenzy of the build and the installation of more than four hundred images, this was a time for the students to sit with their work, to take in what their photographs had given to these spaces and what these spaces had given their photographs. Ultimately, this was a film about them — this eclectic community of photographers who'd come to “Britain's worst school” to deliver a lesson on the transformative power of education.
